Believers have a responsibility to contribute towards the development of a just society, Gozo Bishop Mario Grech said.

Speaking at a manifestation on the occasion of the feast of Christ the King, Mgr Grech said: "It is the duty of every Christian to promote a love for knowledge. For to express truth, to defend it and express it with humility and conviction and give testimony to it, the force of love is a must. It is in the Eucharist, in the participation of Sunday Mass, that the Christian community can find the strength to move forward so that it can grow stronger and help in the building of a better world."

The occasion also marked the climax of the Eucharistic Congress that the Gozo Diocese celebrated during the past three weeks. Around 100 priests and hundreds of people took part in a walk of faith from St Francis Square to Savina Square - the same square where the first Eucharistic Congress of Gozo was held in 1929.

The Vatican's Commission of Justice and Peace president Cardinal Peter Kodwo Apiah Turkson also attended.
