May I compliment the letter written by Victor E. Regonesi regarding the regeneration of Freedom Square. The old Opera House in particular is a prominent piece of architecture, even though it is in ruins. It is a reminder of what Malta was subjected to during the war and as such should be left alone. After all, most cities have ruins some of which are considered sacred, e.g. Acropolis in Athens, temples in Egypt etc.

I am all for change and improvement but believe this to be wrong in this instance. Enclosing the area will take away its attraction and maybe not attract as many visitors. The Christmas cribs and montage was a huge success, as will be the many open-air concerts which could be held during the summer.

Please don't change something which does not need changing!
