Mepa chairman Vince Cassar’s daughter, architect Simone Vella Lenicker, will chair the Nationalist Party’s General Convention on the environment, Idea Ambjent, sources close to the PN have said.

The convention is being held next weekend.

This will be the party’s second convention and will include discussions and workshops open to the public. Opposition leader Simon Busuttil will be making the closing speech on Sunday.

The idea behind the three-day convention is to kick start a consultation process on the environment, before the PN launches a number of proposals, the sources said.

Ms Vella Lenicker graduated from the University of Malta and between 2006 and 2013 served as vice-president and honorary secretary of the Chamber of Architects and Civil Engineers.

She is also editor of The Architect, a position she has held since 2008, and is a senior architect at Architecture Project.

PN sources said discussions with the media will be held on Friday while on Saturday, workshops will take place.

The party’s first general convention, Idea Malta, was held in October 2014 and saw the PN inviting members of the public to weigh in on party policy as part of its restructuring process.
