The Office of the President said in reply to queries today that President Eddie Fenech Adami had undergone an investigation and subsequent treatment following a recent non-specific chest discomfort.

"A post-exercise myocardial perfusion scan performed on Thursday, 5 June 2008 revealed possible cardiac ischaema and a coronary angiogram was done on Friday wherein a stent was introduced to treat a critically narrowed coronary artery. The procedure was successful."

A week's rest from official duties has been recommended by the medical team.
