A woman who resisted the police when she was approached after having been seen drunk and unable to take care of herself has been fined €1,200 and placed on probation for two years.

Pauline Zahra, 42, from Mosta, pleaded guilty to assaulting a traffic police inspector and two police sergeants, threatening them, slightly injuring a woman police sergeant, driving her Nissan while under the influence, refusing to take a breathalyser test, swearing in public, breaching the peace, disobeying police orders, giving false details to the police and to being inebriated in public.

The incidents took place at around 7pm yesterday at the Valletta Police Station and later also at the police headquarters in Floriana.

Before Magistrate Doreen Clarke, the woman pleaded guilty to the charges brought against her. She was fined a total of €1,200, which she can pay in monthly instalments and was placed on probation for two years so she can be monitored.

Police Inspectors Jeffrey Scicluna and Mark Mercieca prosecuted while lawyer Patrick Valentino appeared for the woman.
