The government is raising the tax deducation given to parents who pay fees to send their children to private schoosls. Finance Minister Tonio Fenech said in the Budget speech this evening.

He said that the maximum amount given in tax deductions will increase: in the case of children in primary schools or in kindergartens, to €1,200, and in the case of private secondary schools, to €1,600. (incerases of €200 in each case)

Mr Fenech said the government is also holding with the Private Schools’ Association to study areas of cooperation which, while guaranteeing the independence of these schools from the State, will ensure their viability.

The government will give a refund of 15.2 percent of eligible expenses connected to new building by these schools.
