A private tertiary level school yesterday demanded immediate recognition for three courses it offered, accusing the Education Department of dragging its feet on the matter.
Future Focus Ltd said it had been asking for accreditation for diplomas in childcare, para-education-facilitation and in elderly care since 2007 but nothing was done despite many promises.
The company filed the protest against the permanent secretary at the Education Ministry and the Malta Qualifications Council, which gives such courses the accreditation needed for them to be offered to the public.
The situation was simply unacceptable and the company was suffering substantially because of the competitive disadvantage the ministry put it in, lawyer Peter Fenech, who signed the protest, said.
The company is demanding that the courses be accredited immediately once it had the academic level required, adding it was holding the ministry and the council responsible for any damages.
