A judge yesterday turned a suspended jail term into an effective one on appeal by the Attorney General.

Keith Camilleri, 27, Qormi, had been given an 18-months jail term suspended to four years after he had been found guilty of theft and of driving an unlicenced and uninsured vehicle.

The Attorney General appealed and asked the court to hand down an effective jail term.

Mr Justice David Scicluna said this morning that as Mr Camilleri was currently in prison for another crime, he should not have been given a suspended sentence.
