A man who was serving a prison sentence for theft, escaped from the Sant' Anna Drug Rehabilitation Facility in Baħar Ic-Caghaq this morning, using the facility's car.

The car was later found in Mosta and the man was found dead near by, under a bridge.

Caritas, which runs the facility, reported to the authorities that the man, Keith Camilleri, was missing at about 11.30 a.m. He had been washing the facility's vehicle, a blue Korando (registration No. TFI 392) and drove off with it.

Camilleri was serving a sentence for two counts of theft and a fine which was converted into a term of imprisonment.

He had been referred to the Caritas facility on June 15, 2011 for a two-year drug-rehabilitation course as he was nearing the end of his prison sentence.
