The Prince of Wales has told of his passion for Transylvania at the end of a five-day private visit to Romania.

Charles told President Traian Basescu today he was "very impressed" by the region and the president thanked him for giving the region a boost.

Basescu responded that journalists are more interested in asking questions about his just-married son the Duke of Cambridge.

Charles, who did not take questions, calls Transylvania, in the north-west of Romania, a "national treasure".

The prince spent four days travelling through the unspoiled landscape and viewing centuries-old farming traditions in Transylvania where he owns several houses and cottages. He also met Prime Minister Emil Boc.
