The Prime Minister’s behaviour and votes in Parliament on planning legislation confirmed that he wanted absolute control on land in Malta, PN spokesman Ryan Callus said today.

He said this was because rather than handing power to civil society, he opted to retain it himself.

Addressing a news conference, Mr Callus said the Opposition as the voice of common sense moving the amendments which environmental organisations wanted to obtain a greater voice and more power in planning decisions. Most were resisted by the government.

Mr Callus said that the new planning legislation gave the minister additional powers, was less transparent and went against the government’s own electoral manifesto.

He said that in its amendments, the Opposition found the support of Independent MP Marlene Farrugia.
