Prime Minister Joseph Muscat officially inaugurated Is-Suq tal-Belt in Valletta on Friday night following a €14 million capital investment.

The building which spans from Merchants Street to St Paul Street is one of the major projects undertaken by the private sector in Valletta.

The project, which saw the dilapidated premises being extensively restored and refurbished, came about after an investment by the privately-run Arkadia Catering.

The project has transformed the iconic Victorian building into a hub where gastronomy is intertwined with cultural events and a recreational space.

More than 250 new jobs are expected to be created as a result of this project which is one in a series of others transforming Valletta, which currently holds the title of European Capital of Culture.
