Prime Minister Joseph Muscat this morning had a meeting with his Jordanian counterpart Abdullah Ensour with whom he discussed bilateral relations.
This is the first time that a Maltese Prime Minister is visiting Jordan.
Dr Muscat said he wanted to continue to give a sign that cooperation in the Mediterranean region was of utmost importance.
Malta was sending a clear message about this and would give the Mediterranean an impetus when it took over the European Presidency at the beginning of next year.
The two Prime Ministers agreed about the importance of stability in the region.
Dr Muscat said he was also in Jordan with the aim of seeing new markets opening up between the two countries and that was why he was accompanied by a delegation of businesses.
Malta, he said, was seeing investment from Jordan in tertiary education through the American University of Malta.
Mr Ensour spoke about the migration problem because of the conflict in Syria and said he expected more help from the international community.
This did not necessarily mean cash handouts but more business which created work and improved the infrastructure.
The two prime ministers also discussed the Libyan crisis and the situation in Palestine.
