Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi and MP Franco Debono had a meeting at Dr Gonzi's office in parliament this evening, informed sources said.

The two had not met since a meeting at the Auberge de Castille on January 22.

Dr Debono abstained in a no confidence vote on January 26 and no vote has been held in Parliament since.

On Sunday, in his speech after the leadership contest, Dr Gonzi said the PN welcomed with open arms all those who wanted to work within it in the interests of the country. He also spoke on the need to put the PN back at the heart of society.

Dr Debono yesterday congratulated Dr Gonzi for his speech and said he viewed it as recognition that his call for the party to reconnect with the people had been acknowledged. He stressed, however, that while Dr Gonzi had shown sensitivity and conceded a lot, the future depended on what the government actually did and what had been broken needed to be fixed.
