The prime minister this morning joined primary school children who were taken on a harbour tour aimed at helping them appreciate the bastions.

The government last year launched a €36 million project to restore the bastions around Grand Harbour, Mdina and the Cittadella in Gozo.

The Skola Sajf students were given a quick lesson in history by a teacher who spoke about the Order of St John and how they had ringed their important towns with fortifications.

Resources Minister George Pullicino, whose ministry is carrying out the restoration project, said that smaller areas in Valletta were being restored with local funds, including the old warehouses at Biaggio Steps.
