In a statement, the Energy Ministry said today's announcements mean stability in fuel and gas prices till March.
The stability in fuel prices for the next three months was the result of hedging of fuel procurement. The price of diesel would be the lowest in 18 months while the price of petrol would be the second lowest during the same period.
This was also possible because the increase in import duty charged on fuels did not become applicable as soon as the Budget was announced.
The stability in gas prices was the result of the efforts of Liquigas and the ministry. With international gas prices being uncertain, prices for local consumers would have been considerably higher had these efforts not been done, the ministry said.
This policy contrasted with what used to take place in the past, when prices changed every month. Stability meant peace of mind for families and the possibility of better planning for businesses, the ministry added.
