Since July 1, there were a total of 215 business outlets that were found to have increased their prices, 78 of which were justified because the increases reflected genuine increases in raw materials and running expenses.

Answering a parliamentary question by Carmelo Abela (MLP), Finance Minister Tonio Fenech said the Euro Observatory had continued to follow up on those establishments that were not justified in raising prices. Each received a "first direction letter" and was paid regular visits until it took remedial action. Except for two cases that are still pending, all outlets agreed to decrease their prices and in some cases reverted to their original prices.
