The popular Pretty Bay in Birżebbuġa has been reopened for bathing after tests found there are no dangerous elements in the water.

The bay was closed by the Civil Protection Department on Friday when a container carrying chemicals in the Freeport was hit by machinery.

The Environmental Health Directorate said yesterday that tests on water samples, together with those taken on site, found there was no element or oil that was harmful.

The signs informing the public that the bay is not a swimmers’ zone are also being removed.
