The President’s daughter, Maria, got married on Saturday evening in a ceremony at Tarxien parish church.

She was the first daughter of a Maltese head of state to have emerged as a bride from San Anton Palace, accompanied by her proud family.

The Palace facade and the chapel were decorated with flowers for the occasion.

President George Abela walked her up the aisle in the church where she was also baptised and received her First Holy Communion and Confirmation.

Maria, 26, married Paolo Marconi, 37. They will be living in Italy, where she recently graduated from the Conservatorio di Milan and intends to follow a career in lyrical singing. She has auditions later this month.

The wedding reception was held at the Corinthia Palace Hotel.
