President George Abela has cast his vote for the general election at Marsascala school. He also cast his vote for the locality's local council.

It will be the President who formally concludes the electoral process when he signs the results of the general election and swears in the prime minister and the Cabinet.

Only one President in Malta's history has sworn in a government twice - Ugo Mifsud Bonnici did so in 1996 and 1998.
