President George Abela visited US Ambassador Douglas Kmiec at Saint James Hospital in Sliema where he is recovering from follow up surgery necessitated by last summer’s tragic accident in California which seriously injured the diplomat and took the lives of two of his closest friends.

The surgery was scheduled over Christmas to allow sufficient healing time and to minimise disruption of embassy work “and”, Prof. Kmiec said, “so I wouldn’t miss the President’s fun run and what seemed, as I blended into the solidarity of the moment, a sea of thousands joyously sharing in an activity that, as part of L-Istrina, does so much to help such so many. Let it be recorded that Christmas in Malta is kept well for all the right reasons.”
