The President’s writ for the holding of a casual election to fill the European Parliament seat vacated by Opposition leader Joseph Muscat has been signed and is due to be published in today’s Government Gazette.

The publication of the writ will be followed by an announcement by the Electoral Commission on the holding of the election. Nominations will be received early next week and the election is expected to be held before the weekend.

The election can be contested by Joe Debono Grech, Glenn Bedingfield, Wenzu Mintoff, Robert Micallef and Owen Bonnici, although Dr Bonnici has already ruled himself out.
