President George Abela would not comment on the political developments that will see the country heading to an election on March 9.

"It is still too early to comment," he told timesofmalta.com in his first reaction after meeting Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi this morning.

President Abela would not say whether there was a problem on when the electoral writ will be issued, adding more information will be released later on.

This morning Dr Gonzi advised the President to dissolve Parliament on January 7 and call an election on March 9.

It is believed the President has disagreed with the January 7 dissolution, interpreting the Constitution as requiring an immediate dissolution.

President Abela was visiting an arts exhibition in aid of charity event L-Istrina at Mater Dei Hospital.
