President Marie Louise Coleiro Preca is in London for a series of meetings with non-governmental organisations specialising in social sectors.

Her first meeting was with Rose Hunt, the chief executive of Stonewall International, set up by a small group of people to fight sexual discrimination.

President Coleiro Preca explained how the President’s Foundation for the Wellbeing of Society would be basing its work on several social aspects and professional research with the aim of coming up with proposals that reflected the real situation.

The President also met Yasmin Whitebread, the chief executive of Save the Children International. Ms Whitebread promised to help the President’s Foundation in its projects.

President Coleiro Preca expressed her wish to collaborate with the organisation in projects in aid of children in Malta, which had already started at San Anton Gardens.

It was agreed that the organisation would provide experts to assist the Presidency launch projects which deal with current challenges faced by children.

One of the subjects discussed was unaccompanied migrant minors who arrived in Malta with the organisation saying that EU countries should be more proactive in their help to Malta, especially when it came to vulnerable children.
