President George Abela is back on his feet and carrying out his constitutional duties, according to a spokesman from the President's office.

"The President is walking, holding meetings with his core group and signing laws; constitutional duties do not wait," the spokesman said.

Official duties outside San Anton Palace are still on hold, however, and Mrs Abela will be carrying out official visits across the island at least until Friday.

Dr Abela is recovering from a fracture of the vertebra sustained in a fall while on a visit to China for the Shanghai Expo two weeks ago.

He was flown back in a specially-modified aircraft supplied by the Chinese government and was discharged from Mater Dei Hospital last Saturday.
