As was the case on Saturday, yesterday's meeting at Marsa consisted of eight all-trotting events on the 2,140m distance. However, this time the main race was from the Premier division.

Noel Baldacchino and Julian Farrugia were the meeting's best drivers yesterday with two wins each.

It was a pity that the Premier Class race had five of the 14 entrants scratch, including In Vitro Du Bourg which was not among the runners.

However, the race still proved to be exciting at the end with James de l'Iton, driven by Baldacchino, going into the lead midway through the final straight to claim first place. Favourite Pilot Kloster was second and Pay Me Dirt third.

Quite a number of trotters dashed together along the last 150m of the Gold 2 race but it was Widget, directed by Michael Ellul, that pulled off a narrow win over Whiz Kid while Simb Moonwalker followed closely in third place.

No fewer than six trotters ran close in the Gold 4 race but none of them reached the post first as victory went to Charlo Debono's Charlie Smitt, only in its second outing in Malta.

Label Du Bouffey, under Farrugia's charge, surprised three others in the final metres to win the Silver 2 race.

An attack, initiated some 600m away from the post, enabled Krac Des Nouettes, driven by Baldacchino, to win Silver 4 as Chris Vassallo's Kancho D'Occagne just managed to beat Iptus at the post in Bronze 1.

Spice Boy, of Shaun Portelli, returned to winning ways at the racetrack after quite a long time, crossing the finishing line first in the Bronze 4 race.

Yakin jumped into the lead midway through the distance to go and win the Bronze 6 race yesterday.
