Amazing footage has been released of a baby in a stroller rolling into the path of an oncoming train.

Closed-camera TV footage from Australia taken yesterday reveals the harrowing moments a baby in a pram rolled off a Melbourne platform ahead of an oncoming train.

When the mother realised what had happening, she ran to the track's edge, but it was too late. She screamed for the train, which had been slowing for the station anyway, to stop. But it still dragged the child and pram for nearly 40 meters.

Fortunately, the baby was strapped tightly in his pram and amazingly only suffered a bump on its head. It was taken to Melbourne's Royal Children's Hospital and was said to be in stable condition.

The mother reportedly is distraught from the incident, which comes just one day after the train company launched a public awareness campaign to keep children safe around trains.
