Malta was still not sending detailed reports on air pollution to the EU, according to the Labour Party.

Opposition spokesman Leo Brincat said the government had not yet found a solution to the particulate matter emitted by the power stations. The government had still not published detailed statistics, village by village, of how many Maltese and Gozitans had died of cancer in recent years.

The government opted for a diesel operating plant for Delimara's extension, a plant that would have to be replaced and modified when the country started using gas for the production of electricity and which would continue polluting, Mr Brincat added. On the contrary, European power plants had substantially reduced their emissions by installing better abatement equipment. They also started using cleaner fuels to substantially improve efficiency.
