I refer to the letter Yet Another Power Cut (April 19). Enemalta Corporation regrets any inconvenience caused to consumers.

We would like to clarify certain points, mainly the fact that according to our records, during the last six months, there have been four high voltage outages in the Żabbar area mentioned. Two were underground cable faults, one of which was caused by a private contractor, another was due to an overhead line fault (on April 18). In all three outages, supply was restored within four hours or less.

The outage mentioned in the letter refers to April 17, which was a planned switching off to carry out pre-emptive maintenance in a substation, with the sole aim of increasing overall reliability in the area.

Enemalta Corporation publishes such planned outages, days in advance, and this information is available on all media and to the public at www.enemalta.com.mt. Enemalta also offers a free service whereby consumers are informed three days in advance via SMS before a scheduled switching off.
