Enemalta said this afternoon it was working tirelessly to restore supply to a number of localities in Gozo, which had their power supply cut off because of a cable fault.

The corporation said that another fault yesterday evening interrupted supply to Victoria, Kercem, San Lawrenz, Gharb, Marsalforn and Xaghra.

The 11kV cable fault, which occurred at 6.48pm, was isolated and the majority of substations were re-energised at 7.33pm with supply being fully restored at 9.18pm.

At around 9.50am today, another fault occurred. It tripped two feeders affecting a number of substations which provide electricity to some of the localities affected by yesterday’s outage and also including Ghajnsielem, Fontana, Xewkija, Sannat, Munxar and Ghasri.

Enemalta said its employees are trying to locate the fault and restore supply to some of the affected consumers through alternative sources. As of 12.40pm, more than half of the substations were re-energised and works are ongoing to restore supply to the other substations.

The corporation warned that consumers whose supply has been restored may suffer another short power cut during switching operations when normal network operations are restored.

It apologised for the inconvenience.
