Asafa Powell is looking forward to his tussle with Tyson Gay in two British events this summer.

Powell, the fastest man in the world this year, and former three-time world champion Gay will meet for the first time this year at next month's British Grand Prix, before shaping up again in August's London Grand Prix.

Gay and Powell have not raced against each other in the 100m since September, with Gay winning the last three encounters to take an 8-7 lead in head-to-heads.

However, former world record holder Powell has already spoken of his desire to take the record back from fellow Jamaican Usain Bolt.

Powell's form in his opening races this year suggests he could improve on his 2006 performance at Gateshead, when he set the first 100m world record in England by equalling the 9.77-mark.

The 27-year-old is looking forward to his return to the north-east and said: "I know I have a pretty serious race lined up with Gay competing as well and I'll be going all out to make sure I get a faster time.

"Myself and Tyson are clearly the two who are going after the world record. Tyson has not been competing that much this year and I know he's been injured so I'm looking to take advantage of that.

"I'm feeling good and am on form so I'm confident that I'll place first in this race - I'm certainly aiming for that."

Gay, who has switched his competing discipline at the British Grand Prix from the 200m to the 100m, is yet to make his debut in the Diamond League series.
