The Faculty of Arts is offering a new evening full-time post-graduate diploma in interpreting. Six interpreting booths will be installed at the Faculty, financed under the EU Transition Facility Funds.

The EU Commission's SCIC - DG Interpreting and the European Parliament will be sending over to Malta experienced interpreters to help in the running of the course. SCIC has already sent two experts for a "training the trainers" seminar held last month for Maltese lecturers and another expert for the aptitude tests to recruit possible future Maltese interpreters.

The course director, Professor Joseph Eynaud, has signed an agreement with the French Embassy which will be financing an in-service course for lecturers responsible for the diploma courses in translation and interpreting. The course will be organised by the University of Strasbourg. The Maltese booth has now four new Maltese interpreters who graduated at the University of Westminster and have passed recruitment tests in Brussels.
