The Special Olympics bowling team, sponsored by Vodafone Malta Foundation, are currently taking part in the third division league.

The 22-week competition kicked off on July 13.

The Special Olympics team have made a very positive start and their win against the BoV team last Monday lifted them to third place in the standings. Atlas are leading the division ahead of the Swinger team.

The tournament's highest individual scorer is Albert Borg, of Special Olympics, with 150/160/170.

"Our participation in this tournament demonstrates our commitment to include the athletes in mixed capability sports competitions," Anna Calleja, Special Olympics Malta director, said.

"The Special Olympics bowling team, including Albert Borg, Philip Grupetta, Bjorn Tabone, John Paul Fenech and others, are showing great determination and performing to the best of their abilities.

"Thanks to their involvement in this league, they will learn and experience the rules and techniques of bowling. This will also prepare them for the upcoming European and World Games in Poland and Greece in 2010 and 2011."

The third division league is played every Monday at 9 p.m. at the Eden Superbowl.
