Retailers have reported an overall positive performance this festive season, with 85 per cent of those questioned in a Chamber of Small and Medium Enterprises (GRTU) survey saying that their sales were good.

According to the survey, half of those questioned said their sales were better than last year while another 26 per cent said they sold as much as they did last year. 24 per cent said their sales had decreased. It resulted that those who made an extra effort to increase their sales actually improved their performance.

Around 70 per cent of the retailers said that they had met their expectations with regard to the performance
over the festive season. 28 per cent said they were not expecting the results they achieved.

GRTU director General Vince Farrugia said that the overall performance this festive season was positive and the results of this survey were practically identical the results conducted by the GRTU research unit after the 2006 festive season.
