Only 18 out of 33 breathalyser tests during roadblocks last year were proved positive, Home Affairs Minister Carm Mifsud Bonnici has said in Parliament and criminal proceedings were being taken.

Answering a question by Ċensu Galea (PN), Dr Mifsud Bonnici said the police had performed a total of 80 breathalyser tests but he refrained from saying how many of these had proved positive.

In reply to another question by the same MP, the minister said that last year, the police investigated 831 traffic accidents that involved bodily harm or death. The Civil Protection Department was asked to intervene in 178 cases.
