The Malta FA have engaged the services of two coaches to work in its youth sector.

David de Sousa Nascimento, a Portuguese national who lived in the Netherlands for several years, has been appointed MFA youth development officer and will also coach the national Under-19 squad.

Peter Pullicino has joined the association’s technical staff as physical trainer. The former Hibs, Msida and Marsaxlokk midfielder, who played 22 times for Malta, also has coaching experience having served as Paul Zammit’s assistant during the latter’s spell at Premier League club Birkirkara.

De Sousa Nascimento turned out for several clubs during his playing career, including Vitoria de Setubal and Victoria Guimaraes in Portugal and Waalwijk, Roda, Utretch, Roosendal and Sparta Rotterdam in the Netherlands.

The MFA said in a statement that the Portuguese brings a wealth of experience to his new job as he has work in the youth academies of Utrecht, where he also had a spell as assistant first-team coach, and Sparta Nijkerk.

De Sousa Nascimento, 49, is the founder of a football academy in The Hague and has also worked in Mexico with Chivas Guadalajara and South African club Mamelodi Sundowns. He also had an experience as technical director of Greek club Apoel.

The MFA also announced that Argentine coach Sergio Soldano will continue to work in its academy.
