A hardy Portugal fan has arrived in Poland after cycling 3,600 kilometres (2,236 miles) to show his support for his beloved team at Euro 2012.

The Polish newspaper Metro reported that Jorge Franco set out from his home in Palmela, near the Portuguese capital Lisbon, seven weeks ago.

He crossed Europe to reach the small community of Opalenica in western Poland, where Portugal have their base-camp.

Portugal arrived late on Monday night to prepare for their opening match against title contenders Germany in the Ukrainian city of Lviv on Saturday.

The bulk of the 16 participating teams at Euro 2012 have opted to set up base-camps in Ukraine's co-host Poland.

It was not immediately clear if Franco planned to take to the saddle again to head to Ukraine, or would pick an easier option.
