Port workers at Malta Freeport and Grand Harbour went on strike for an hour this morning in solidarity with Portuguese port workers who are resisting a new Ports Law

The action was ordered by the Malta Dockers Union in response to an appeal for solidarity by the International Dockworkers Council.

The stoppage also coincided with the European Ports Policy Review Conference which is being held today in Brussels.

Malta Dockers Union President Joe Saliba and Secretary Clinton Sammut Union are participating in the conference where they are opposing attempts by the Commission to legislate on European port labour services, the MDU said.
