Three port foremen licenced to work for Central Cement Ltd have filed an application for damages in court against the company and Transport Malta, as regulator.

In their application, Pierre Debono, Paul Sammut and Ivan Spiteri Lucas claimed their licence, valid to the end of this year, was for port work at the terminal operated by Central Cement Ltd. The licence, they said, had no other restrictions.

However, they were informed by the company that Transport Malta had said that port workers would not give a service if they were appointed foremen when the company had non-cement work.

This, they claimed, did not make sense in a commercial environment and led to loss of income unless they were given a remedy.

They asked the court to halt the illegal behaviour and grant them damages.
