The 17th population census of the Maltese islands will be held on November 20. It will be the second census in Malta since the country became a member of the European Union.

Census officer Michael Pace Ross said this morning that a census was held once in a decade to obtain the number and characteristics of people living in the Maltese islands on the day.

It aids policy makers, town planners, councils, service providers and businesses and monitors changing trends in the demography and social aspects of the population.

Enumerators will visit all households between November 7 and December 4 and the information given should be correct as on November 20.

A budget of €1.6 million has been allocated for the census.
