Pope Francis took his tour of New York on the road when his popemobile took to the normally quiet lanes of Central Park before he celebrated Mass at Madison Square Garden.

With thousands of cheering fans lining his path, the drive in the Park was anything but tranquil.

Attendees from all over the world, ranging from the Philippines to Haiti and Albania, said the experience touched their hearts.

"It's amazing, I want to cry, "said Olivia Strohman, from the Philippines.

"The greatness, the humility in him and his message of love and togetherness and that's what we need in this world," said Salome Mondelus, who is originally from Haiti and journeyed from Florida to see the Pope.

Pope Francis then celebrated Mass before a cheering crowd of 80,000 people at Madison Square Garden.

The facility, which is better known for hosting sports events, was packed with an enthusiastic crowd, which cheered and prayed with the 78-year-old pontiff.

He closed Mass by imploring the crowd to "go in peace, and don't forget to pray for me."

The ceremony capped a day spent addressing international leaders at the United Nations and visiting school children in Harlem.

It was the pontiff's final event in New York. This morning he heads for the final stop on his U.S. tour -- Philadephia.
