A Polish Salesian priest Fr Mark Rybinski, 33, who formed part of the Salesian community at the northeastern city of La Manouba, Tunisia was found dead yesterday morning. His throat was cut and he had a bump on his head, sources said.

It was Fr Lawrence Essery, an Irish priest who holds Maltese citizenship, who alerted the police. The other Maltese member of the community is Fr Mario Mulè Stagno. Fr Rybinski’s body was found in the school’s store room after he had been missing for 24 hours. The priest who hailed from Warsaw was the community bursar.

The Maltese community of Salesians of Don Bosco has been responsible for the mission school for 700 children in Tunisia for over 20 years.
