Policies on billboards, child day care facilities and height adjustments for retirement homes are being drawn up, Planning Parliamentary Secretary Michael Falzon said in Parliament this evening.

Winding up the debate on the planning authority's estimates, Dr Falzon referred to claims made earlier by Opposition spokesman Ryan Callus and said that Ronnie Vella had replaced someone whose wife was the secretary of a former Mepa chairman who used to earn hundreds of thousands.

This woman had been appointed without a call, he said adding that this did not mean he was defending Mr Vella.

Dr Falzon said that when he took over from Mepa, he inherited 10,000 cases of enforcement.

Earlier, Labour MP Marlene Farrugia said she was afraid that the mistakes the government was committing would haunt future generations.

Many sins, she said had been committed by the previous administration and this government was elected on the call of meritocracy.

If what the Opposition was claiming about the goings on at Mepa was true, the government was not keeping to its promises but repeating the mistakes of the previous administration.
