A police officer who has already been awarded for bravery after he rescued a woman from a burning house is in the spotlight again after foiling an alleged burglary.
Police Constable Robert Vassallo caught 35-year-old Glen Borg, of Cospicua, allegedly trying to break into a garage in Attard on Thursday afternoon.
Mr Borg was yesterday charged with attempted robbery and granted bail.
PC Vassallo was on his way to work when he spotted Mr Borg running and acting suspiciously. When the accused entered an area of basement garages, the officer decided to follow him and caught him allegedly trying to prize open a garage door.
Mr Borg pleaded not guilty to attempted theft and to damaging the garage door, handling stolen property, driving without a licence or insurance and relapsing.
Defence lawyer Arthur Azzopardi asked Magistrate Doreen Clarke for his client’s finger prints to be taken and the request was granted.
The magistrate granted Mr Borg bail against a deposit of €2,000 and a personal guarantee of €10,000.
PC Vassallo and another policeman, PC Kenneth Camilleri, received an award for bravery after they rescued a woman caught inside a burning house in Marsascala last September.
