A  police motorcyclist was hospitalised this afternoon after being hit by a stolen quadbike he was attempting to stop.

The driver of the quadbike was eventually arrested by policemen of the mobile squad after a chase. A woman who was riding pillionwas also held.

The drama took place between Tal-Barrani Road in Ghaxaq and Triq Hal-Tarxien, Gudja.

The police said that the traffic policeman spotted the quadbike and signalled it to stop. The quadbike was stolen from Paola two days ago. Its number plates were stolen separately.

The quadbike driver drove on and the traffic policeman called for back-up and gave chase.

At one time when the bikes came alongside each other, the quadbike swerved onto the police motorcycle, causing it to crash.

The quad bike driver, a 47-year-old man from Valletta, and the woman, 40, also of Valletta, were arrested.
