A 26-year-old policeman was yesterday charged with drug possession and trafficking.

Jean Claude Agius, of Sta Lucija, was arrested last March after he was found in possession of drugs when he reported for work at the Valletta lock-up, where he was stationed.

Agius was also charged with receiving stolen goods after a woman`s purse and ID card were found in his locker and it resulted they had been stolen in December, Police Inspector Neil Harrison told the court.

Insp. Harrison said about 25 grams of cannabis and a gram-and-a-half of heroin were also found in his locker.

In a separate arraignment, Sean Briffa, 20, of Paola, was charged with drug possession and trafficking after he was allegedly found in possession of 16 sachets of heroin, ecstasy tablets and cannabis resin.

Insp. Neil Harrison prosecuted.

Dr José Herrera and Dr Joe Giglio appeared for both Agius and Briffa.
