Policemen who carried out waiting duties at government events in June last year were still not paid for their services, Nationalist MP Jason Azzopardi claimed this evening.

He was making a series of Parliamentary questions to Home Affairs Minister Manuel Mallia.

The minister denied that the policemen who served at these functions had been ordered to do so. They were first requested and those who accepted the request were then detailed. These were policemen who refused the request and their refusal was respected.

Dr Mallia said that the ministry had paid the force commercial rates for the services offered, which were however lower than the quotations the ministry had been given by catering companies.

Dr Azzopardi asked the minister to check about the matter saying that he was informed that, up to last week, the policemen had not yet been paid for the services had been given.
