A 46-year old man is expected to be arraigned in court soon over the theft of works of art from four churches in the past three years.

The police said the man, who they did not identify, was arrested yesterday after they found a number of artistic and silver objects at his property. They put the value at thousands of euros.

Objects have disappeared from Ta’ Gieżu and St Paul’s Shipwreck churches in Valletta, Sliema’s Stella Maris and the parish church of Safi.

A number of other silver items were found in the man’s home and the police asked any members of the public to come forward if any such items have been stolen from them in the past few years.
