All roads within a 600m radius of an Easygas facility in Marsa were sealed off from traffic for several hours on Saturday morning following reports of a suspected gas leak.

Gas is believed to have leaked while a truck bowser was being refilled.

Police blocked off the roads surrounding Valletta Road and ensured all nearby buildings were evacuated, while Civil Protection Department officials sprayed large volumes of water onto the ground in the area to minimise any potential risk.

Medical teams were also sent to the area as a precautionary measure.

The area was declared safe shortly after noon, and roads were reopened to traffic.

Magistrate Claire Stafrace Zammit is leading an inquiry into the incident.
