36 persons were arraigned for a combined total of 255 times between January and September to face prostitution related charges, Home Affairs Minister Carm Mifsud Bonnici has revealed.

In all, the police arraigned 55 persons during this period for alleged offenses in Gzira, Ta' Xbiex, Msida and Marsa.

Where cases were decided, the penalties were conditional discharge or a suspended prison sentence

The minister also said in reply to another question that the police so far this year have received 53 reports of rape or other sexual assaults. The investigation of 46 cases has been concluded and 31 people have been taken to court.
